Vote for Kai
Aotearoa Food Rescue Alliance is pleased to be part of Vote for Kai and the conversation it’s creating about food security, food waste, and community resilience in Aotearoa.
Vote for Kai is a collective that believes in an Aotearoa New Zealand where everyone has access to healthy, culturally appropriate kai and Te Tiriti ō Waitangi is honoured in shaping our food system.

Where we align
Every day, food rescue organisations across the motu work to ensure good food reaches people who need it rather than going to waste. Through this mahi, our members see both the challenges facing communities and the opportunities to build a more resilient food system.
AFRA is particularly aligned with the aspects of Vote For Kai that focus on:
- Improving food security and access to nutritious kai
- Reducing food waste
- Supporting sustainable funding for community food infrastructure
- Strengthening local food systems and community resilience
- Supporting Te Tiriti-led approaches and authentic partnership.
Championing Food Rescue Across Aotearoa
As the national alliance for food rescue organisations, our role is to champion food rescue and advocate for the people and organisations delivering this vital mahi every day.
Together, AFRA members rescue millions of kilograms of surplus food each year and redistribute it through community organisations, helping strengthen communities while reducing environmental impact.
